The Best Credit Cards to Buy a Purse in Paris

Are you planning on spending big on your next trip to Europe? Saving up for a Birkin or a Bottega? Want to splurge on a luxe trip to celebrate your Master’s degree? If you’re looking to make a big purchase in the luxury goods market, you might consider using a points card to get the most bang for your buck. When preparing to make a substantial purchase, it's crucial to evaluate whether your current credit cards can optimize the expenditure's benefits. While all rewards cards can be beneficial, specific cards offer additional advantages for major purchases. In this article, our goal is to guide and support you in making the best credit card choices for significant expenses.

Amazon Prime Visa

Thank goodness Amazon has added luxury goods to its offering. If you live in New York City like me, you know it’s essential to track your packages and have a great customer service policy. Otherwise, that new Nordstrom’s box could become your neighbor’s. Plus, it can help you with some great rewards if you were planning to visit the Chanel Rue Cambon store or buy a bag in Charles de Gaulle. Prime members who frequently make purchases from Amazon and Whole Foods will be attracted to the *outstanding* 5% rewards rate. The Prime Visa card also provides a 2% rewards category and comes with the usual Visa Signature benefits. For Amazon Prime members, this card is a standout choice. It's challenging to find another card that provides such generous rewards across multiple purchase categories. But, if you can’t find your dream bag in Roma, you can search for a pre-loved one once you’re back home.

Highlights:

  • 5% cash back on Amazon and Whole Foods purchases

  • Cute welcome bonus with no spending minimum

  • No foreign transaction fees

  • No annual credit card fee

Delta SkyMiles® Platinum American Express Card

This is the card I personally use, after deciding the AmEx Platinum didn’t make sense for me. I’ve been loyal to Delta since I was 15 and I like that on top of flights, I also get points whenever I use Lyft and Starbucks. The card also comes with an annual companion certificate for eligible flights, which often has a higher value than the $350 annual fee. An impressive initial bonus, along with opportunities to earn bonus miles each year, adds even more value to the offer. If you fly a decent amount and live in a large East Coast city, I think this might be the card for you!

Highlights:

  • 50,000+ bonus miles after spending $4,000 in purchases in the first 6 months

  • Up to $120 in credits for rideshare programs and Resy.com

  • Annual companion certificate for a domestic, Caribbean or Central American round-trip flight

  • Pretty high APR, ranging from 20-29.9%, so make sure you pay off your purchase within 25 days

Chase Sapphire Reserve®

The amount of friends who tell me to get the Sapphire Reserve is right up there with people who tell me to switch from Android to iPhone. Everyone in New York City is using it. The card offers great point-earning opportunities for travel and dining purchases. The $300 travel credit offsets a large part of the yearly fee, and redeeming points for travel through Chase Travel gives you a 50% bonus. The Chase Sapphire Reserve card offers great value through its bonus categories and user-friendly travel credit. You can redeem Chase Ultimate Rewards points via its airline and hotel partnerships, as well as the Chase Travel portal.

Highlights:

  • Super-flexible $300 annual travel credit

  • Transfer your points for high rewards on elite airline and hotel partners

  • Access to 1,300+ airport lounges worldwide via Priority Pass and up to $100 application fee credit for Global Entry, NEXUS, or TSA PreCheck®

  • Pretty high APR, and you’ll need a great credit score

Ink Business Premier® Credit Card

If you're a business owner, The Chase Ink Business Premier® might be a great card for you. But heed warning -- this is a charge card, not a credit card, so you have to pay in full every month. With a generous rewards rate on large purchases and 2.5% cash back on purchases of $5,000 or more, it can really help you whether you're buying a Louis Vuitton trunk or a new Macbook for your business. The Chase Ink Business Premier also offer 5% cash back on travel purchased through Chase Travel℠ and 2% cash back on all other purchases.

Highlights:

  • Great perks and points with this business charge card

  • $1,000 cash back when you spend $10,000 in the first 3 months

  • The only business credit card that provides 2.5% cash back on all purchases over $5,000

  • Points cannot be transferred to airline or hotel loyalty programs.

We always shop sustainably around here – both for the planet and our pockets. But if you’ve saved up for a big bag purchase and use credit cards well, these tips can help you get cash back on Chanel on your next Euro trip.
